STYLE & IDENTITY DEL REY DE LOS CORRIDOS TUMBADOS

STYLE & IDENTITY DEL REY DE LOS CORRIDOS TUMBADOS

There is no denying the streetwear influences in Nata’s style. Oversized, baggy and sometimes saggy jeans, sneakers, and of course, fitteds. It presents a loud, “I don’t give a fuck” message, or at least how I personally perceive it as. I firmly believe not giving a fuck is a part of Nata’s identify. It naturally translates to the clothes he wears.

The adidas partnership is a great asset to his career. Being in adidas, just like singing about love, dr*gs, and money gives the idea that he’s just like you and me. Notice the subtle lyrics of luxury brand mentions in his songs. It’s similar to the way he does a seamless job at wearing luxury with streetwear in the same outfit. It also corresponds with how he takes trap/rap inspiration as part of his process, but then keeps some of the Mexican tradition. So, it makes sense to wear the hat every now and then too.

From humble beginnings to making his dreams a reality, Nata sends the message that a life like his is accessible. I find this appeals to the younger crowds, especially. The jewelry is outright flashy though. Diamond-encrusted, BIG ASS chains, watches, and bracelets. That’s where mentions of success and money in his music coincide.

Nata doesn’t limit himself to one aesthetic, instead he puts different aesthetics together as a form of self-expression. My point is that in the same way his corridos are blended, “hybrid” if you will, so is his style. Style, just like identity, is not meant to be predictable or definitive. All of it is just meant to be your own. Style is a form of self-expression, and Nata’s identify is apparent in the clothes he wears, the way he wears it, and the accessories he chooses. It undoubtedly gives “I Invented the corridos tumbados genre”.
